Explanation of Fence Markings
PDF Version (79 KB)
Each obstacle is marked with the following coloured discs:
- White (left) and Red (right) discs, indicating the left and right edges of the obstacle
- Blue (OPEN), Green (NOVICE) and Yellow (TRAINING) discs, denoting which part of the obstacle should be jumped by each class or difficulty level (OPEN, NOVICE, TRAINING)
The diagrams below show a few examples of different ways in which obstacles can be marked in Killeady Hunter Trials:
Same obstacle for all three classes
If all three classes (OPEN, NOVICE, TRAINING) take the same route over the obstacle, the blue, green and yellow discs will only be on the right hand side (i.e. under the red disc). All competitors must jump between the red (right) and white (left) discs.
Different route from class to class
Where the route over an obstacle differs from class to class (e.g. if the TRAINING course takes a smaller option), then there may be blue, green and yellow discs on both sides of the obstacle. In this case competitors must jump between the red and white discs designated by their class colour, as you can see in the examples below.
Single class only
This obstacle only has blue discs, which means it is part of the OPEN course.
Two classes only
This obstacle has green and yellow discs. It must be jumped by NOVICE and TRAINING competitors.
Smaller option for NOVICE/TRAINING
OPEN must jump the obstacle on the left (between the two blue discs). NOVICE and TRAINING may jump the smaller option if they wish.
Smaller option for TRAINING only
OPEN and NOVICE must jump the obstacle on the left. TRAINING may jump the smaller option if they wish.
Three different levels (options for NOVICE and TRAINING)
OPEN must jump the biggest obstacle on the right (between the two blue discs). NOVICE may take the middle option if they wish (between the green discs). TRAINING may take the smallest option, but may jump the larger obstacles if they wish.
Three different levels (option for TRAINING only)
OPEN must jump the big section on the left. NOVICE must jump the medium section on the right. TRAINING may jump any section of the obstacle.
